A: So, what is the report about?
B: It’s about the government’s evaluation of banks in the US. They call it “stress tests”. The US government is trying to find out which banks are strong and which are not.
A: What do you think?
B: I have an account with Citibank. Their share fell sharply in March; it was something around one dollar per share. A friend of mine told me if they were an ordinary company, not a financial institution, they would have gone bankrupt long before. I was very concerned and thinking that I should close my account. But I was too busy to do that, so I still have it. According to the report, Citigroup is the third worst bank at the moment. However, I’m relieved to learn that the US government will help Citigroup if they can’t raise enough capital from private investors.
