Go to BBC Learning English, listen to the report, listen a few times until you understand it, read the script if necessary, and come back.

So, what is the report about?

What do you think?

A: So, what is the report about?
B: It’s about North Korea’s military threat. It has abandoned the truce with South Korea that ended the Korean War in 1953. It fired a missile into Japanese airspace last month and carried out an underground nuclear test a few days ago. It has restarted producing plutonium for nuclear weapons.
A: What do you think?
B: North Korea is scary because they are unpredictable. It is difficult to see how serious they are about using nuclear weapons. Maybe they are just bluffing, but we don’t know for sure. If we know that they are going to attack us with nuclear weapons, we have to do something. We can’t just stand aside and wait until their nuclear missile reaches Japan. But then, what should we do? If we told them that we will destroy their nuclear facility if they don’t stop producing weapon-grade plutonium, that would be a good excuse for them to attack Japan. And do we have the military capability to destroy their facilities? Perhaps we need help from the US.
